NOVEMBER 2008
I hope everyone is enjoying this cold weather. I suppose it is that time of year when we have to put the coats and gloves on, but I would much rather be enjoying the hot sun in Kenya.
I was in Kenya in May of this year to visit the construction site of the eye clinic in Kokwo Toto and to reassess any changes in the cost of the clinic. Although the scenery was beautiful and the Pokot people were extremely excited about the impending project, I was shocked to realize that the dollar had dropped so significantly in the international market, that we had to increase the budget for this clinic. Instead of the original $50K, we now needed $90K to complete the project.
Despite the little bump in this road, we have pressed on. The contractor is Kolping, a company that has a wonderful reputation among the Europeans. The construction has begun as of two weeks ago. The contractor has employed the people of the tribe to help build and this has already made the clinic very special to them. Thankfully, water has been plentiful so the project is proceeding quickly.
Please, consider supporting us again so that we can complete the project. We still need to raise another $55K. I hope that we will be able to raise the money by April 2009.
I pray that all of you will have a wonderfully blessed holiday season. The Pokot tribe is very excited and they want me to express my thanks for all of your support. I hope that someday all of you will come over to Kenya to meet these wonderful people myself.
Thank you for your continued support. If you would like to donate to this cause please send your tax-deductible gift to:
