Another year to return to Kokwo Toto and bring water, food, education and healthcare.\u00a0 Last year the community saw a lot of political upheaval from the local churches and this year we found peace.\u00a0 There were no political issues causing upset and division.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the first thing I found upon arriving was the extreme dry weather\/drought the community was in.\u00a0 Pictured below is the dam at Kokwo Toto which had completely dried up\u2026so the people were totally depending on water from the different water points, at the AIC compound and at our compound.\u00a0 The rains don\u2019t normally start until April.<\/p>\n

DAM AT KOKWO TOTO<\/p>\n

The main goal of this trip was to equip the well in Orus, see how the water project was going on in Kokwo Banga and to maintain the water project in Kokwo Toto at our compound.\u00a0 First, however, I was keen to greet the mamas who came visiting as soon as they found out I had returned.<\/p>\n

MAMAS FROM KOKWO BANGA PROJECT, WHERE THE PEOPLE MAINTAIN THE COMPOUND WELL AND VALUE THE WATER.\u00a0 I GAVE THEM SOME JOURNALS WITH BIBLE VERSES ON THEM.<\/p>\n

After the greetings were over, the work began. \u00a0I went to Orus, which is approximately 12 kilometers from our compound in Kokwo Toto.\u00a0 Here we are unloading the two tanks that will be used to deliver the water here in Orus.\u00a0 Pictured below is the drinking water in Orus.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t guarantee the success of our water projects without the aid of the community.\u00a0 Here is my caretaker Helen with her newborn baby.\u00a0 Her job is to be at the water point from 6 am to 6 pm everyday to insure good maintenance and security.\u00a0 She is a teacher who is hoping to return to teaching after her 6th<\/sup> born is a bit older.<\/p>\n

CARETAKER NAMED HELEN WITH HER NEWBORN BABY AT THE ORUS PROJECT<\/p>\n

It is important to communicate with the mamas at Orus to ensure that they understand how the project is to be utilized for proper maintenance and security to ensure sustainability.\u00a0 They were told that, even though goats and cattle would also be using the water, that animals weren\u2019t allowed on the compound.\u00a0 Animals can trample some of the taps and we don\u2019t want to risk lack of access to water for the community.<\/p>\n

HAVING A MEETING WITH THE MAMAS AT ORUS TO DISCUSS THE WATER PROJECT<\/p>\n

Depending on how much you may like animals or insects, seeing a monitor lizard may be something that may excite you or scare you.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a fan of lizards so I didn\u2019t mind when my caretaker dispensed of the lizard.\u00a0 After all, having found a mountain of termites inside the clinic compound when we first arrived, just took all the desire out of me to see any more insects or lizards.\u00a0 The termite hill inside one of our rooms was four feet tall and six feet wide.\u00a0 The pesty creatures had entered through a tiny crack in the foundation.\u00a0 I was done with seeing anymore insects or animals at that point.\u00a0 But Africa has it\u2019s own story to tell and we are all part of it.\u00a0 Even a python visited us a few days later!<\/p>\n

MONITOR LIZARD FOUND UNDER STONES WE WERE LOADING TO TAKE TO ORUS TO BUILD A STAND FOR THE STORAGE TANK.<\/p>\n

The work at the Orus project consisted of building a stand for the lower tank, erecting the steel tower for the upper tank, and installing three taps for water.\u00a0 Here are a few pictures from all that work.\u00a0 We partnered with Drilling for Life, once again, to complete this good work.<\/p>\n

Having completed the work in Orus, we looked to our compound to do some minor repairs.\u00a0 Mainly to get rid of the bees that were swarming around our leaking tap.<\/p>\n

THE GUYS HELPING ME OUT AT OUR COMPOUND TO STOP A LEAKING TAP FROM ATTRACTING BEES.\u00a0 ELIAS TOOK HIS SHIRT OFF TO DO THE REPAIRS SO THAT THE BEES WOULDN’T GET A CHANCE TO GET TANGLED IN HIS CLOTHES.<\/p>\n

Now that the compound was repaired and the bees evacuated our compound, we looked forward to the upcoming drilling project in October of 2019.\u00a0 The community of Nalakwoi is\u00a0 3.5km from Kokwo Toto and the people are eagerly looking forward to getting life-giving water.<\/p>\n

The other main goal of our trip is always to work with and bless the children in all of the communities we serve.\u00a0 Every Sunday, the children from all the areas that we serve would walk to our compound in Kokwo Toto to receive God\u2019s word and to eat cake and juice.<\/p>\n

SUNDAY SCHOOL<\/p>\n

We gave each of the older students notebooks and pencils and crayons to all nursery school students. They were thrilled!<\/p>\n

For valentine\u2019s day each student got heart sticker, either on their forehead or cheek.<\/p>\n

THE KIDS WERE SO EXCITED TO GET A SOCCER BALL TO PLAY ON THEIR SCHOOL PLAYGROUND<\/p>\n

The joy on their faces is well worth the entire trip. \u00a0Not only are the children drinking clean water, they are growing as people with education that opens their eyes to the possibility of being more than they can be\u2026.to dream far beyond what they would dare to dream without our presence in their community.\u00a0 We are humbled and encouraged to be a part of this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
